| Change The Channel Social Awareness Campaign – A campaign addressing African-American stereotypes shown in the media, primarily television and music. A poster was developed for each gender. Both displays common stereotypes and how it affects the perceptions of the public. – Poster One: The young black man is still enslaved 300 years later, only to what the media describes him as. Modern day shackles have turned into iced out chains and jewelry. The background symbolizes poverty, another common stereotype associated with African Americans, primarily males on television. – Poster Two: In media, young black women are often perceived as hyper-sexual and submissive, especially in hip-hop music videos. In this poster, she's being percieved as a peice of meat. Her elegant look is to contrast with what you or somebody may think she's like, just from what you see on television or hear in the music that's played on the radio . – Photography in collaboration with Ingrid Hertfelder. |
